Dimension
In data quality, one of the aspects on which data is judged, such as accuracy or completeness. In analysis, a descriptive attribute used to group numbers, such as region or product.
The two senses are unrelated, so check which one is meant. In the analysis sense, a dimension with untidy values splits one group into several and makes every total by group wrong.
Where it comes up
- Inconsistent category labelsA column meant to hold a few fixed values holds many spellings of them.

- Data qualityHow well a dataset serves the purpose it is used for. Usually judged by accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity, uniqueness, and timeliness.
- Categorical dataValues that place each row in one of a limited set of groups, such as a status of open, pending, or closed. The values are labels, not quantities.
- GranularityThe level of detail that one row represents. A table with one row per order line is finer grained than a table with one row per order.
