Human review
Having a person examine a proposed change, and accept, correct, or reject it, before it is applied to the data.
Review is worth its cost where a change could alter meaning or cannot be undone, such as merging two customers. Routine reformatting does not need it, and sending everything to a person means nothing gets a careful look.
Where it comes up
- Near-duplicate recordsTwo rows describe the same real thing but differ enough that an exact comparison misses them.
- Duplicate keys with conflicting valuesTwo rows share an identifier that should be unique, but disagree on other fields.
